Dump truck driving jobs involve transporting various different materials to various different sites. These include loose materials like dirt or sand. Sometimes there are dangerous conditions for the driver to go through, but the goal is still the same to get all of the materials to its target destination safely.

In order to be eligible for dump truck driving jobs you will need to get your Commercial Drivers License. Various driving schools and colleges have programs that help people with getting their CDLs. However, there are various different kinds of CDLs that different businesses will require because there are different kinds of dump trucks used in various dump truck driving jobs.

There are many different types of dump trucks that are used in dump truck driving jobs. Transfer dump trucks are the most common, but there are also off-road dump trucks and side dump trucks that handle materials differently. Semi trailer dump trucks, which include end dump and bottom dump trucks, are also common in certain areas. Depending on the job that you are looking for you will need to have different CDLs that work with these individual trucks.

Dump truck drivers should also be able to not only handle the loads in their trucks but also work with calculating the weight of loads. This is needed because all trucks have their own specific weight capacities. The load should be less than the maximum, so it is important for the driver to be able to determine how much is in a load.

Some dump trucks in dump truck driving jobs will require you to use a forklift or other machine that is used to load and unload cargo. You will need to be able to use these machines for your individual job. Securing the load onto the truck is also needed, as it is important that the cargo is not lost.

A driver must also maintain the dump truck and complete any repairs that are needed on it. You can get information on repairs when training for your CDL.

The last thing you will need to do in any dump truck driving job is to keep a record of all of the travels that you do with it. This includes recording information on what you transport, how far you go, how long it took to travel and how much fuel you used.
